Being A District Treasurer: What's in it for Me?

Be a District Treasurer!

Do you understand how to keep the books of an organization? Are you good with numbers? Can you sign your name illegibly? Do you like to write checks using money other than your own?

If so, consider becoming a District Treasurer to further develop your spending skills.

What Does a District Treasurer Do?

A District Treasurer serves for a full Toastmasters Year (July 1 through June 30th) to handle the district financial needs which includes:

  • Uphold the bylaws and policies of Toastmasters International
  • Attend and participate in district training programs
  • Approve disbursements of district funds in conjunction with the District Governor and in accordance with the policies of Toastmasters INternational
  • Approve the requisition of district funds from World Headquarters in conjunction with the District Governor
  • Develop, plan and recommend a discal program for using district financial resources, including:
    • Establishment of a realistic budget based on the goals of the district
    • Record, monitor and evaluate the district's financial performance
    • Financial reports to the district executive committee and district council
    • Requisition, receipt and disbursement of district funds
    • Short-, medium- and long-term forecasting of district financial resources and cash flow
  • Submit timely financial reports to both the district and to World Headquarters
  • Present to the district executive committee and to the district council a semi-annual treasurer's report
  • Provide to the district audit committee all financial information required
  • Timely disbursement of funds for operative expenditures
  • Maintain custody of all district assets including the district banner, gavel, education supplies and other property
