Leaders, Do You CARE?

by Jack Mackey, Lt. Gov. Marketing, 2003-2004

As a leader in District 22, do you CARE about the health of the District? Toastmasters districts are in place to enhance the performance of clubs and extend the network of clubs, thereby offering greater numbers of people the          opportunity to benefit from the Toastmasters educational program. There are four critical success factors that will make that happen. These factors fit neatly into the acronym C.A.R.E.

C          CCs (Competent Communicators)
The median for districts is 3.5 of total membership (half the districts are above, half below). The best districts have 10% or more CCs each year.

A          ACs (Advanced Communicators)
The median for districts is 1% of total membership, but the best do 3% or more! (As a measure, CC/ACs are roughly equivalent to graduation rates.)

R          Recruitment/Retention
Just like a college, we need a new class EVERY year. That's WHY District 22 has the Red Ribbon Lifeblood Team.

E          Extension
Based on what Toastmasters International has learned, they set one club per 15,000 population as a district's potential. Using that guideline, our potential in District 22 is 179. We currently have 106 clubs, giving us room for growth. That's WHY District 22 has the Blue Ribbon X-Team.

If we all C.A.R.E., increasingly more of the population within District 22 will find a Toastmasters club in which to          grow in communication and leadership skills. That's the real reason we focus on measures of success for our district.
