Proposed Club Realignment for 2008-2009
 By Annette Rude, DTM
Lieutenant Governor of Marketing
Assigning clubs to new areas or divisions is called Club Re-alignment. The purpose is to apportion clubs within Divisions and Areas so that responsibilities are distributed evenly among Division and Area Governors - as much as possible. Over time, imbalances occur because of new clubs forming and clubs closing.
Changes are subject to approval by the District Executive Committee and the District Council, which will convene on April 26 at the District Conference in Mission, Kansas. The Club President and VP Education are voting members of this Council. They may designate a proxy voter if they cannot attend. Approved changes will take effect on July 1, 2008.
This year we are submitting extensive changes to address a number of challenges.
· Adding a new Division R.
· Re-drawing Division boundaries.
· Renumbering Areas so that each area number is unique.
We invite you to review the proposal which can be found online by clicking here or http://www.tm22.org/pdf_files/D22_Proposed_Realignment_2008_9.pdf . It presents goals, maps, boundary descriptions and club lists.
Discuss it with you club members and area governor or contact me at Annette.rude.d22@sbcglobal.net.
I hope we will see you at the District Council meeting. |

How About Something Extra!
By Jeanette Allen, ACB CL
Region V Planning Team
It's always nice to get something extra and this year District 22 has an extra opportunity for you! In addition to our spring District conference being held at the end of April, District 22 is hosting the Region V conference, Jazz It Up!, June 20-21 at the Kansas City Airport Marriott.
District 22 is one of eight districts in Region V and, with the annual conference hosting on a rotational schedule, it isn't often that we get to attend the conference in our very own district! The regional conference has 3 primary objectives: 1) to train district officers; 2) to hold the International Speech Contest to select a winner to compete at the International Convention; and 3) to nominate director candidate(s) for the Toastmasters International Board of Directors.
To learn more about the fun events, enlightening educational sessions, inspiring contests and how we will combine the best that Kansas City has to offer - jazz and BBQ - at the conference, see the Region V web site: http://www.region5tm.org/ For a chance to get a free meal at the conference, submit your registration early. Fee and meal payments postmarked by April 30 will qualify the registrant for a drawing. The registration form can be found at the Region V web site.

| We Need You!!!!
By Mike Tuttle
That's right: if you are a club Prsident or VP Education, the District especially needs you to be present at the upcoming Spring conference to make a quorom. We have a good deal of business to conduct including the election of next year's officer line, as well as the re-alingment plan.
If for some unthinkable reason you cannot fulfill your obligation to attend, you can fill out a proxy form found at www.toastmasters22.org under the conference tab. Once the proxy form is filled out you MUST give it to a member of your club who will be attending the conference. This proxy carrier can be your Area Governor, BUT only if they are a member of your club.
If you are an Area Governor you can have a maximum of 3 votes one as Governor and 2 proxies from your club. If you are a member of more than one club, you can still only have a maximum of 3 votes total.
If you are not a club President or VP Education, you are still strongly encouraged to attend the conference and particularly the business meeting. This is the best way to learn how the District is operated and see what furture leadership role would interest you the most.
Your District leadership team has been very hard at work to provide you with an excellent chance for education sessions and to network with other Toastmasters on everything from how to craft that advanced speech to membership opportunities -- not to mention seeing this spring's five best speakers in the District battle it out to see who will represent the District at the Regional in Kansas City in June, and that winner will advance to Calgary, Canada to vie for the title of World Champion!!!
What more could you ask for? So by all means, we will see you at the Spring conference on April 25th and 26th. Full details at www.toastmasters22.org

| Become an Area Governor and Discover Your Potential
By Teresa Wallace, AC-S, AL-B
Area A3 Governor
2007-2008 has been a wonderful year for Area A3 and for me as the area governor. I learned much about myself as a leader. I left my comfort zone of only speaking at my current clubs of Beechmasters and Semi Pro. I learned that I can motivate people within my community to work hard in Toastmasters to explore their potential by expanding their roles and reaching for new goals.
I began my duties in June, 2007, by assisting for the first time with the TLI Officers Training. I drew Sergeant-At-Arms. I explained their duties but also explained that, no matter what your duty may require, you should always attend meetings and greet everyone especially guests with enthusiasm.
My first task from the District 22 leadership was to work within Hawker Beechcraft Corporation (HBC) to save Beechmasters from loosing their charter. Mike Tuttle and I approached Nin George to be the President. Nin and I worked together to form new officers and begin rebuilding Beechmasters. We approached the Senior Leadership within the company and received their backing and assistance to plan a kickoff meeting that coincided with Beechmasters 34th Anniversary on August 2, 2007. Our attendance had to be cutoff after receiving over 170 e-mails wanting to participate. Steve Gridley, Area A1 Governor and Linda Shinogle came to HBC and spoke at the meeting. We did receive 8 new members from the event.
Then I realized the time and started visiting the clubs in Area A3. Each club greeted me with enthusiasm and listened to my comments. I even managed to meet with most of the officers on the first visit. I entered my visits on the very last day, causing me great stress.
Then came the fall Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest. I had never chaired a contest. I was so uncomfortable but fuddled my way through the event. I did receive excellent and effective feed back from some wonderful Toastmasters. This helped to prepare me for the Area A3 Spring International Speech and Table Topics Contest which, by the way, was well attended. My confidence had improved significantly.
This spring when I did the Area visits, I even managed to give an inspirational speech that incorporated our District Governor Mike Tuttle's vision "Stellar Training and Resilient Speakers", titled "I am a Resilient Speaker". After finding the meaning of resilient, I discovered that I am a truly resilient speaker; I fainted during my first public speaking event. Now I am a confident speaker who looks for opportunities to speak to others. My personal goal for the spring visits was to complete and enter before the end of January.
As I wrap up my final months as the Area A3 Governor, I challenge each of you to look inside yourself and think about how you might grow from this unique opportunity as Area Governor. You can grow as a leader, listener and speaker. I have personally taken all I have learned and incorporated many into my daily routine as a manager here at Hawker Beechcraft Corporation. |

Toastmasters lost a wonderful friend this month, Jerlean Coffee. Many of you will remember her as the woman with the beautiful voice who sang the National Anthem at several of our conferences. She was a past member of AgMasters and most recently, Toastmasters Unlimited. She is missed. |

Visit Us at Semi-Pro
By Rhonda Green, ACG, CL, President of Semi-Pro Toastmasters.
I just celebrated my second anniversary of Toastmasters membership. Joining Toastmasters was not my idea. I was having a communication problem with the Director of Engineering. He suggested I join the new Toastmasters club which was chartering at the facility in Tucson, Arizona. When your boss makes a suggestion, it's really an order.
So, I joined on March 1, 2006, under slight duress. I read the manuals and completed the projects. I earned my first CC and CL awards in six months. Once I embark upon a project, I see it through.
I moved to Wichita in October and joined Toastmaster clubs as a means of networking. Nearing completion of the second CC award, I chose a member of Semi-Pro club to be my mentor. She immediately put me to work recording the awards I had completed and writing down the Toastmaster goals that I would like to accomplish.
In May of 2007, my mentor asked me if I would consider being President of the Semi-Pro club for the 2007-2008 TM year. I had served as VP of Public Relations in my charter club in Arizona, and was currently completing the term for VP of Membership for another club. I said I would think about it.
The Semi-Pro club is an advanced Toastmasters club with a group of very advanced members. The standards are extremely high. Members include district leaders, as well as winners of speech contests at the Area, Division and District levels. Every meeting is filled with advanced speeches and outstanding evaluations. Being a member of the Semi-Pro Toastmasters has also opened the doors for speaking and leadership opportunities outside of Toastmasters.
I accepted the challenge and became President for this term.
When you lead an advanced club, it requires you to set the pace. Through this TM year I have achieved 6 Toastmasters awards and I will be completing a 7th before year end, including Advance Communicator Bronze (ACB), Advance Communicator Silver (ACS), Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG), two Competent Leader Awards (CL) and an Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) Award. Being a member of three clubs and especially the Semi-Pro club has helped me achieve my personal Toastmaster goals. As a result of my improved leadership skills, I have been asked to conduct professional development seminars at work.
This group provides an ambient environment, full of encouragement and friendliness. The members donate their time and effort whenever called upon by a fellow member. Each and every one of the officers fulfills their duties in the most professional of ways. The mission of Semi-Pro Toastmasters Club is truly to assist each and every one of its members in achieving their goals. The length of its meeting is even extended to allow members to present more lengthy manual speeches.
I would like to extend an invitation to you to come and visit the Semi-Pro Club. I believe that we could help you achieve any communication or leadership goals that you have. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, Tom's Lotus Garden Chinese Restaurant, 822 S. Broadway.
For more information about the club contact Rhonda Green, President, Semi-Pro Club, 316-523-5324. Email: Rhonda.Green@spiritaero.com. |
Insuring Success
By Caroline Burnett
President, CATPoint Toastmasters
Farmers Insurance is pleased to welcome a new Toastmaster Club meeting at the Overland Park Auto Claims Office. Farmers "Insuring Success" Club chartered March 10th with 23 members. Neighboring CATPoint Toastmasters Club sponsored the new club. Insuring Success Club President, Lori Mannoni said this about CATPoint 's help in their Club's chartering process:
"The CATPoint Club has been instrumental in the successful chartering of our club. Although there were several individuals from our office that stepped forward to assist with the chartering of our club, none had been involved in Toastmasters before.
We had heard and read about the many benefits of Toastmasters and thought it was something that would not only benefit us but also our employees. CATPoint graciously let us attend their meetings at which we were always made to feel welcome. There were members that would stay around after the meeting to talk with us and answer any questions we had. I knew from the first time I attended the CATPoint Club meeting that I was not only committed to starting a Toastmasters club in our office but also wanted our meetings to be as open and friendly as theirs.
As we continued to work through the chartering process, I frequently called upon the CATPoint club for advice. Again, they were always willing to share their ideas and experiences. Our Demonstration meeting was scheduled and again CATPoint was there for us."
The CATPoint Club welcomes the Farmers employees at the Insuring Success Club to the exciting Toastmaster experience. We look forward to helping this new Club in developing each member's public speaking and leadership skills. Congratulations and Welcome to Toastmasters!create the most interest for your readers.
