Congratulations to all the new and continuing
2007-2008 club officers!
As Steven Covey stated in one of his habits of Highly EFFECTIVE people, (that's you!!), "Start with the end in mind." See yourself and your club right now ending your 2008 year being Presidential Distinguished! Here is the first step to reaching that goal: Attend Training! Let us help you be successful as a club officer. District 22 will present Toastmasters Leadership Institute Training as well as Club Officer Training. As an officer this training will help you be the best you can be. Don't miss this excellent opportunity to continue to grow and build those leadership skills so vital in today's world. That's right, you're all invited. "To what?"
is the big question. The answer is this
year's kick off training for the newly
elected and appointed District 22 officers
for the 2007-08 year. This year rounds begin
in Wichita on June 2nd with TLI for new club
officers. Why is everyone invited you might
ask? The reason is, if you have ever wondered
what being an officer entails, this is your
chance to find out. Auditing is encouraged.
The next TLI is most likely in Topeka on June
23rd followed by North Kansas City on June
25th and the last TLI is scheduled for KC on
June 30th. Just like in Wichita, everyone who
has an interest in learning about being a
club officer is encouraged to come.
Those of you who keep a calendar close at hand will notice that June 9th and 16th are open and may wonder why. The answer is that on June 9th we are having Division Governor/Area Governor training in KC. Again anyone interested in what those offices entail is welcomed to attend. Of course I'm sure that you all have your calendars marked for June 16th as Regional in Rockford, Illinois. See some (if not all of you:)) there. Keep a close eye on your emails as full details will be forth coming in the near future. |

We are so close to District 22 being
Distinguished, I can taste it!
We need to be planning for next year. We also need to finish out this year strong. We still need 339 additional memberships. Is your club planning a "guest day" or some other way to increase membership? We still need our remaining six clubs to pay their dues. You know who you are. We still need 2 new clubs. Several are close to chartering. We still need 7 CCs (Competent Communicators). That's it! Don't loose sight of the goal. Let's make a record breaking finish! |

How can every club in District 22 add 5 new
members? To accomplish this by the June 30th
deadline, every Toastmaster has to list 5
people to invite to a meeting.
Give the High Five at your meetings.
Name 5 ways Toastmasters has changed your life.
Articulate 5 ways Toastmasters has improved
your speaking skills.
Who are 5 people you would love to get into
Toastmasters?
What 5 people in history demonstrated oratory
excellence?
Name 5 people you admire and why.
Have fun with High Five. Expand your comfort zone to encourage new participation in your club. High Five is meant for you. |

Six weeks remain in this Toastmaster year,
not only to reach this year's goals, but also
to prepare for inducting next year's officers.
Elections for new club officers are in May. If you haven't held your club elections yet, be sure to put it on your calendar. The club president's manual has a section on how to hold the election. Once you have elected your new officers, the outgoing president should take responsibility for submitting the new officer list to TI by June 30. The outgoing club president will receive new manuals from TI and should pass those on to the new president. Recruiting for club officers is the most important leadership activity that outgoing club officers can accomplish. Announce the election during a business meeting and invite people to volunteer. However, you can also recruit individual members whom you would like to see lead your club. Tell them why you think they are the right person for the job and tell them what you will do to support them in their new position. The outgoing president should schedule an induction ceremony for the last business meeting of this year to pass control to the new officer team. The club president's manual explains the induction ceremony. Recognition of your outgoing officer team during the ceremony is both courteous and affirming for those officers. It also offers their example as a role model to other members. Besides, that certificate of appreciation provides an official record of their service as a club officer.
Inducting your new officers in front
of the club brings the new leaders into the
spotlight and strengthens their commitment to
club. Remember to include the members in the
audience in your ceremony to renew their
commitment to the club.

Club success starts with members. Does your
club have enough? Enough for good meetings,
enough for new officers, enough to meet your
Distinguished Club goals by June 30?
Where to start? Start with your club rosters. Call members who did not renew in April. In this day of email, a personal phone call is a powerful connection. No answer? Don't leave a message. Keep calling on different days, at different times until you finally get an answer. Help rekindle their interest in their Toastmaster goals. Old friends: Use old rosters to invite members who have dropped off to come by for a visit. You can invite by email, but a postcard is more tangible - and not that hard. Use an index card and write a note. Address it, stamp it and mail it. Be sure to include your phone number or email address. You might even consider a special theme meeting of "Old Friends" and use that as an excuse for an invitation. Guests: Your guest book is a gold mine of people who are already interested in Toastmasters. Your call, email or card notifying them of your next meeting time and date might be exactly what is needed to get them to visit you again. Close the deal: Finally, when your visitors arrive, be prepared with a handout that includes a membership form (partially filled out) and a Toastmaster magazine as a free gift. Recruiting is the most valuable leadership skill that you have to offer. Set your goal for "enough members" in your club. |
