The Finish Line
by Diana Kovac, District Governor   trophy
We're headed for this year's Toastmasters finish line! Can you believe that we are in the fourth quarter of our Toastmaster Year? There are less than three months remaining! How many meetings does your club have? If there are not enough for you to complete your goal, you can visit another club. You're closing in on that Finish Line and in order to "Finish Strong" now is the time to ask those important questions: Have you completed your goals for this year, and, if so, are you working toward the next one? Ask your Vice President of Education what the next goals are.

Did you know that you can complete more that one Competent Communicator? I do at least one a year because I feel the first ten basic projects are the foundation to good public speaking skills and compliment the advanced manuals.

There are just a few meetings left to accomplish those goals so now's the time to give it that Fourth Quarter Burst and "Finish Strong". The Checkered flag awaits you at the Finish Line. See YOU in the Winners Circle!!

The Essential Element
by Mike Tuttle
This month we need to take a look at the very basic tenant of Toastmasters, the CC. For those of you who are brand new to Toastmasters or, like me, just have a challenge getting your arms around the new terminology, you might ask, "What is a CC?" The answer is, Competent Communicator, and it is made up of the first 10 speeches in the basic manual.

More importantly, the CC forms the foundation of all the speeches that follow in your Toastmaster career. The CC is where we learn the basics of opening, body, and closing. We also learn the power of body language, as well as, the tool of voice inflection. It is where we get comfortable with using visual aids and many techniques that all come together to make a good speech better and a better speech great.

Currently, the district is a bit behind the power curve in the number of CC's we have versus what we need in order to be a distinguished district. Please see if you can contribute to earning yours before June 30th, or encourage your fellow club members to get theirs. One point of the Distinguished Club Program is 2 CC's, another point is 2 more CC's.

It is always an option to speak at a club, other than your home one, if there is an opening, thus increasing your opportunities to complete your CC. I believe that with a little planning and some hard work we can reach our goal and take an important step in becoming a distinguished district for the 6th year in row, a real accomplishment and necessary step in order to reach 7 years in a row, A DISTRICT RECORD.

So in closing, let's plan to get those few extra CC's in the bank before the June 30th deadline and help make Diana's year a distinguished one. GO TEAM GO!!!!

A Challenge for D22
by Cyndra Melville, DTM
A challenge has been sent to District 22 from our International Director, Dietmar Wagenknecht. In a recent e-mail he challenged us "I will put a challenge out to you: D-22 has been Distinguished or better five years in a row. But NOBODY has been distinguished six years in a row in Region V. YOU will be the first one. Right?"

I say YES! But it will take all of us. We have already met or beat most of our goals. As of April 13, we still need 40 more Competent Communicator (CC) Awards, 2 more new clubs, and 928 more membership.

If no one holds back on the CC awards we should be good there. We usually have a lot turned in at the end of the Toastmaster year. We are working with several new clubs and should have that covered. What worries me is the membership. We still have 16 clubs to turn in their April renewals. We can figure an average of 20 each which gives us 320. We are expecting another 100 with new club membership currently in the works. That still leaves us short about 500 members. That's 5 members per club.

Let's all work together to make District 22 set a Region V record. From May1 - June 30 is the Toastmasters International "Beat the Clock" Membership Contest. Add 5 new members to your club and receive a ribbon for your club banner plus other goodies. Help District 22 set the Region V record and, who knows, we may set another record for the most Beat the Clock winners!

Let's do it!

High Five
by Tara Patty   High 5
5 members per club and we will be a distinguished district for a record-setting 6th consecutive year.

Can we do it?

I think so, but each club must begin recruiting their 5 today. Every member should think of 5 people they know who may benefit from Toastmasters and invite them to attend a meeting.

Members are going to invite 5 friends. All clubs are going to add 5 new members. High 5.
