Is Your Bag Packed?
by Mike Tuttle Lt. Governor Education and Training   Part 2 of 2
You may ask why having your bag packed is important. We talked about the need to have your bag packed and indeed completing the basic manual and becoming a Competent Communicator is only the preparation for the climb, now for the really exciting journey—the trip up the slope—no pun intended. It is vitally important that from the first moments a new guest is introduced to Toastmasters, they understand that there are many levels of accomplishment and recognition. In some of our divisions, a few guests have become members, gotten excited and earned their Competent Toastmaster in a relatively short period of time. But then for some reason they leave Toastmasters. I can’t help but believe that they feel they have accomplished all there is to being a Toastmaster.

Our job is to make it fully understood to them that there are several levels of accomplishment AND recognition beyond the first step of Competent Communicator. We all know that to become a Competent Communicator—Gold it takes at least several months. We learned at Regional training that studies show if a person stays in Toastmasters for 3 years that most will be in for life. This avoids the membership loss and negative impact on your club and district in meeting success plans and earning Distinguished or better recognition.

By demonstrating the continuing process to all guest we can ensure that they too will pack their bag and take the journey to Advanced Communicator—Gold, and remain in Toastmasters for life.

Ride for the Brand
by Shaun Bennett, 2006 Fall Conference Chair   Fall Conference 2006
This fall’s conference,“Ride For The Brand” is a challenge to all clubs and members to take what has been given to you and to return that gift to your community. In the 1800s, large ranches hired cowboys to drive their cattle, identified by the brands on the animals, to the railroad stockyards, like the ones in Dodge and Kansas City. As Toastmasters, we ride for the brand. We need to scout ways to “brand” Toastmasters, and make Toastmasters a household word, an icon, a recognizable brand.

Several new clubs were formed this past year; we earned lots of awards, and reached many goals. Saddle up your club to make this year one to “Ride For The Brand.” Come to the Fall Conference in Topeka and learn how to drive District 22 to our best year yet. Yee Ha! Ride ’em Cowboys.

Fall Conference Is A Way to Reach Out to Old Members
Tara Patty, Bulletin Editor
There are a few ways to recruit members for Toastmasters. One is to bring new members into a club. Another is to bring back members who were members of the club, but for some reason or another, are not current members. The fall conference is a great way to reintroduce old members of your club to the fun of Toastmasters. Call up an old friend from Toastmasters and invite them to go with you to the conference. Show them how vital veteran members are to our clubs. They are the mentors, the teachers, the ones who have been there and done that and are ready to help new members do the same.
