Spring Training!!
by Diana Kovac DTM, District 22 Lt. Governor Education & Training   For Club Officers and Members too!!
That’s right, Toastmasters has spring training. We wouldn’t expect you club officers to step into the new Toastmasters’ year with out the training to help you do and be the best!

First, clubs offer your members the opportunity to step into a leadership role and elect your new officers in May. Send the new officer list into TI or better yet, enter them in online at www.toastmasters.org no later than June 15.

Next, all officers head for Spring Training (and members can come too). Please mark you calendars for this event and plan on investing the time for the complete agenda of training programs.

Finally, reap the rewards of working with a trained club officer team and have the best year ever!!

Spring Training Dates are:
* June 3: Wichita
* June 17: Toastmasters Leadership Institute, Overland Park/KC South
* June 26: Liberty/KC North
For more details, see the Event Calendar at www.toastmasters22.org. Agendas are in progress.

District 22 will again allow PRE-REGISTRATION for clubs to send their officers and members to training. Please make a check payable to ‘Toastmasters District 22’ for $15 and mail by MAY 27th to:

* Cyndra Melville DTM, 3412 Birchwood, Kansas City, MO 64137.

If you have any questions please call Diana at 913- 642-5216.

See you at Spring Training!!

Toastmasters Tip #9 For New Toastmasters And New Officers

Club Surveys are an excellent way to determine how well the club is serving its members and what ways it can improve that service. A survey should be done once or twice each year. The questions should mostly be multiple choice (with areas for comments on any of them). The questions should ask such things as rating of the club and its meetings and its officers, how well does the club perform in meeting the goals of the members, how useful are the speech evaluations, what they like best and least, what roles they like to do best and least, etc. One or two open-ended questions should ask for feedback on ways to improve the club. (For the full list of TOP TEN TIPS FOR NEW TOASTMASTERS AND NEW OFFICERS, go to www.toastmasters22.org).

Why Be an Area Governor?
by Evie Curtis, Area L2 Governor
I cannot remember what made me volunteer for the position of Area Governor. Something did - maybe to meet one of the requirements for Advanced Leader. As I recall, my arm did not get twisted and it was not to save anyone's life. I think I actually made the decision myself and nominated myself. You probably think I must have been out of my mind. I can tell you that I questioned my own sanity following Area Governor training (yes, the District does give you training for this position). The Area Governor job is a big job, but it is a great job.

I have held the L2 Area Governor position for two years and working with my Clubs has been the best! Why? Glad you asked because I am going to share a few things with you and hope this inspires you to nominate yourself as an Area Governor or an Assistant Area Governor.

Officially, the Area Governor serves as a leader and a link between the District and the Clubs. For each Club in your Area, you work on the Distinguished Club Plan, you visit each Club at least twice a year, you become a resource to your Clubs, and you communicate District business to your Clubs. If this sounds overwhelming, it is not. You are sharing your Toastmaster's knowledge and experience with your Area.

My favorite part is the Club visits. Imagine the opportunity to see four to six Clubs “in-action,” hear all new speeches, learn new ideas, hear effective evaluations, see various Club dynamics AND share all of this knowledge with, not only your Club, but each Club in your Area. You get to inspire your Clubs and your Clubs will inspire you. Before you know it, you are hosting a speech competition, attending a District conference, and you are involved! That involvement translates into leadership. You will be a better Toastmaster and a more effective leader after you have had the opportunity to serve in a District leadership role.

Yes, our District needs good leaders, including you, but being an Area Governor has even more benefits for you. You'll become a better leader, meet some great Toastmasters, get a bunch of useful ideas, and have fun! Nominate yourself today!
